American rappers Quavo and Takeoff of the hip hop group Migos have released a new track, “Bars Into Captions” from their joint project titled “Only Built For Infinity Links.”
Only Built For Infinity Links by Quavo and Takeoff 8s the duo’s first collaborative album after a long catalog of music between the two, released on October 7, 2022.
The album’s title is a nod to Raekwon’s seminal 1995 release, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…”, while Quavo’s cover art is a nod to Ghostface Killah by including the rapper’s trademark hand gestures.
After the release of “HOTEL LOBBY (Unc & Phew)” on May 20 as the first promotional single for the album, speculation was stoked about a probable separation amongst the members of Migos.
The promotional track “Us vs. Them,” which included Gucci Mane as a guest artist, was made available for download on July 29.
In an interview with RapRadar published on August 18, 2022, Quavo and Takeoff announced plans to produce an album under the moniker “Unc & Phew,” which would feature a blend of Quavo’s and Takeoff’s individual styles and sounds.
“Our minds have always been set on making this record […] Here’s the genuine article, straight from the vault, circa 2024 or 2026 [sound]. We’re going back to where it all began, the true yells and cries. My backstory with Us vs. Them is common knowledge. It’s in the blood, and it’s about reuniting with our loved ones.”
The promotional track titled “Big Stunna” featuring Birdman was made available on streaming platforms on August 26.
Quavo tweeted a fan poll on the potential album on September 6. The following day, Quavo and Takeoff posted the album’s release date and artwork on their respective social media accounts, drawing comparisons to Outkast’s 2000 album Stankonia and its single “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…”
Quavo and Takeoff shared the album’s track listing on September 23, which includes 18 tracks and features from artists including YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Young Thug, Gunna, and more.
One week prior to the launch of the album, “Nothing Changed,” the band’s fourth and final promotional single, was made available for purchase online on September 30.
