Nendaz and Veysonnaz: Winter Sports in Les 4 Vallées

Do you want to experience an ultimate winter sports holiday in Switzerland? Go to Nendaz and Veysonnaz! Both belong to Les 4 Vallees and with 412 km of slopes this is the largest ski area in Switzerland. We set out here and mainly discovered the ski villages of Nendaz and Veysonnaz, but Verbier and Thyon also belong to the Les 4 vallées in the Swiss Valais.

Verbier is a bit more luxurious and chic, Nendaz is pleasantly busy and Veysonnaz is a bit smaller and cozier. Thyon is the smallest of the four. You will find a varied range of slopes here and with the highest point at 3330 meters you can imagine how beautifully beautiful you are here in the mountains.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Veysonnaz and Nendaz

If there’s one thing you can do great in Veysonnaz and Nendaz in the winter, it’s skiing and snowboarding. It is sincere to call a winter sports Walhalla. From the Hotel Chalet Royal in Veysonnaz we could easily walk to the ski lift, but even if you sleep in Nendaz, the slopes are never far away. We rented our ski gear at the store Neige Aventure in Veysonnaz, which is practically right opposite Hotel Chalet Royal. But there are also other options.

What Else Is There to Do in Veysonnaz & Nendaz

Besides skiing and winter sports there is more to do in Nendaz and Veysonnaz.

Enjoy the View From Mont Fort at 3330 Meters Altitude

One of the most beautiful views in Les 4 Vallées can be found from the top at Mont Fort at 3330 meters altitude. As far as you can see you see white mountain peaks in winter and with a blue sky it is fascinating to see.

Snowshoe Hike & Raclette Evening in the Middle of Nowhere

Also a must to do: A snowshoe hike & raclette evening! Together with a guide we set out in the forest and made a campfire in the middle of nowhere where we ate raclette. Really cool to do, yes also in the snow, and eating delicious melted cheese on a sandwich under the stars is the best ever!

Winter Walk Along Nice Lunch Spots

Would you like to spend a day doing something other than skiing or snowboarding, but want to enjoy delicious drinks and snacks in different places on the slopes? Then this walk including nice gourmet stops is something for you.

Treat Yourself to a Delicious Dinner in the Evening

In Nendaz and Veysonnaz you will find several nice restaurants, one of our favorites was the Restaurant Greppon Blanc in Veysonnaz. Oh and on the slopes? Then you really should have lunch at Restaurant Mont-Rouge Veysonnaz! With a bit of luck you can also sit here in the sun in the afternoon. Bar le Tipi is the best for an apres ski moment!

The New Activity in Winter Wonderland: Ski Touring

If you ask Swiss people what they do a lot in the snow these days, you will soon hear that they do Ski Touring. It is slightly different from Cross Country Skiing, but also not comparable to Skiing. Try it once?

Cheese Fondue at L’IGLOO 1850

Thyon is a small but cozy village, where you can enjoy a cheese fondue in an igloo-like restaurant in the evening! If you want something different in the evening, this is a really fun place to settle down.

How to Get to Veysonnaz & Nendaz in Les 4 Vallees

If you drive from the center of the Netherlands to Les 4 Vallees, you will cover about 900 kilometers. It is therefore doable to go to Veysonnaz and Nendaz by car. Another option, the one we chose, is to take the night train to Switzerland. You then sleep on the train and you arrive at the ski area the next morning. We did the return trip during the day by train, which was also fine and doable, especially if you have your laptop with you. Of course you can also take the plane to Les 4 Vallees, then take a flight to Geneva (for example with Easyjet or KLM) and from the airport you can take the bus to Les 4 Vallees.
